Ursus americanus
The American Black Bear is the most widespread of the North American bears. Its fur is short-haired and normally black, but variations in color can be found, such as brown, cinnamon, and silver-gray. It is of medium size among bears. Black bears are omnivores, spending most of their time wandering around in search of food. They hibernate between five and seven months each year.
The bear in this picture was at Cincinnati zoo, in May, 2001.
