Buceros bicornis
The Great Hornbill lives in forests of Nepal, India, the Malay Peninsula and
Sumatra, Indonesia, where they feed mainly on fruits, but sometimes also on
small animals. Unfortunately, some tribes hunt this bird because they use
several parts of it for decorations or medicine.
When nesting, the female encloses herself in hollows of tree trunks and seals
the entry with a plaster made mainly of feces. She is fed by the male during
this period through a small hole in the plaster. She goes out of the tree trunk
about two weeks after the chicks have been born.
