Alopochen aegyptiacus
The Egyptian goose is found in Africa, south of Sahara and also in the Nile Valley. The gander is slightly bigger than the female, and also somewhat more brightly colored. They are mainly seen in pairs, or with their chicks, which are between 6 and 12. Ganders are noisy and quarrelsome, with a hoarse, hollow call that sounds like a steam engine. They nest in burrows, other birds' nests, trees, cliffs or on the ground.
