Hippotragus equinus
The Roan Antelope inhabits woodland and grassland savanna in West, Central, East Africa and Southern Africa. They feed on grass, shrubs, and herbs. They need to be always close to a water source. They live in groups of about fifteen females and juveniles with a dominant male, or in smaller herds formed by bachelors.
Under pressure, the Roan Antelope can reach speeds of up to 35 miles per hour for long distances. While its speed is its main defense weapon, by using its horns this animal can successfully confront strong predators, including lions.
