Psittacula eupatria
The Alexandrine Parakeet is named after Alexander the Great, who is credited
with the exporting of several species from the Punjab region of India into
Europe. This bird lives in India, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Western Pakistan, and
Andaman Islands.
These parakeets can form very large and noisy flocks that gather at evening and
can travel long distances in order to feed. They like to eat seeds, flowers,
buds, nectar, grain, fruit and vegetables.
The above pictures were taken in the Attica Zoological Park, Athens, Greece, in July 2008.
