Lesser Kudu

Tragelaphus imberbis

The Lesser Kudu can be found in Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenya, and Tanzania. Females and young ones are of reddish color, like the one in our picture. Males and older individuals are bluish-gray. Males have horns (between 0.50 and 0.90 m) that twist two times. Like some of its close relatives, the lesser kudu can leap up to two meters high. It is relatively independent of water resources, thriving in arid areas.

The picture of this Lesser Kudu was taken at the zoo of Portland, Oregon, in April 2004.
