Lynx lynx
The Eurasian Lynx is an inhabitant of European and Siberian forests, where it
preys on hares, rabbits, rodents, wild boar, chamois, foxes, roe deer and
reindeer. This lynx cannot run quickly for a long time, so it hunts by
performing a quick ambush. When a Eurasian lynx has killed a large animal, it
buries the uneaten part and comes back next day to finish it. The Eurasian lynx
is the third largest predator in Europe after the brown bear and the wolf.
This cat is solitary, except for mothers with cubs. A male territory can overlap
several female territories. A female usually gives birth to two kittens per
season.
The Eurasian lynx has long legs and feet, and in winter its fur on the bottom of
the feet grows densely. These adaptations make it easier for this cat to move
through deep snow.
