Eudyptes chrysocome
Rockhopper penguins live in high grass areas called tussocks, and also in rocky areas, in southern islands. They reach a height of about 55 cm (20 in). They eat mainly krill, and also squid and other crustaceans. The male sits on the incubating egg, while the female goes to find food for him. They form the most numerous colonies of all penguins.
The above picture was taken at Indianapolis zoo, in May, 1999. The ring the bird wears on its right "sleeve" is an identification item, placed there by the Indianapolis zoo keepers.
