Neotragus moschatus
The Suni lives in regions of dense underbrush in coastal regions of southeastern Africa. This small antelope has very good camouflage. When there is danger, the suni freezes, remaining hidden until the threat is nearly on top, at which point it springs out, quickly vanishing into the undergrowth.
Suni feed on leaves, fungi, fruits and flowers, and need almost no free water. They are shy, most active at night, and sleep during the day in a shady, sheltered area. A male usually takes only one mate, even if other females may share his territory.
The picture of this Suni was taken at the zoo of San Diego, California, in March 2004.
