About the Greek Language

Greek is the language spoken by around 11 million people in Greece, and 700,000 people in Cyprus. What follows is a set of pages on the Greek language, both Classic and Modern (with an emphasis on the latter). They should be useful both as a reference, and as a learning guide. It is assumed that the reader, or learner, is already familiar with English. Currently, the following topics are included:

Alphabet, with notes on pronunciation, phonology, and orthography.

Details of modern pronunciation, where knowledge of the alphabet is not enough to guess the correct pronunciation.
